Chatterers...

This is a typical scene when Lucy is awake - constantly jabbering. She loves to make noise and imitate us. She loves her sippy cup the most. Our little girl leaves us with very little to complain about. This video is long, mostly because we couldn't find a good time to turn it off - she just never stops!

Memorial Day Weekend

We had a fun and relaxing weekend with Lucy. The weather was gorgeous in Baltimore, so it actually felt like summer. We went on a walk through a local park and took a picnic lunch with us. Lucy is at this stage now where she points at things and jabbers as if she is asking the name of the object she is pointing to. She spent most of our picnic pointing at different things, such as the leaves, the trees, and our food. We were having an enjoyable afternoon until a dog came running up to us and ate our dessert. You can imagine how disappointed Don was to see his delectable dessert inhaled by that scrappy dog.
On Memorial Day we went on a walk in the Inner Harbor and did some shopping. Later in the afternoon we had our friends, Craig and Laurie, over for a BBQ. Lucy was all decked out in her patriotic clothing which we felt was appropriate given the holiday.
Below Laurie, Lucy and Craig are posing together. In the background you can see the new storm door we got recently. Also Don spent some time this weekend painting the trim around the door and basement window. All in all it was a great way to spend the holiday weekend. Now we are just waiting for my new little nephew to be born any day now...

Waterbottle Obsession

Lucy loves waterbottles more than any toy she possesses. In fact I would venture to say that she has developed somewhat of an obsession with them. In the picture below she has this look on her face like "I dare you to try and take this waterbottle away."
Below is where Lucy spends much of her time. She likes to walk while holding on to the couch. She goes from one end to the other, over and over and over. You would think that the child would get bored. Sometimes when she is feeling really adventurous she goes between the couch to the chair and then to the ottoman. She even is getting proficient at leaning down to pick up a toy while standing holding onto the couch.

Here is Grammy and Lucy when my parents were in town. We went out for happy hour to a local Tex-Mex restaurant. I felt a little weird because we sat in the bar with Lucy. We had to sit in the bar to get the happy hour specials and of course I wasn't going to miss out on half price margaritas. We are starting her out young with exposing her to the whole bar scene :)
Lucy is finishing up her swim lessons this weekend. Don and I have a lot of fun bringing her to our local gym for lessons on Saturdays. Here is Lucy with Puppy at one of her lessons.

Friend Talkers

My amazing friend Jenna began a series on her blog about her friends and she started out with one about yours truly. I am so honored. She totally captured so many of my idiosyncrasies. I didn't realize I was so transparent (of course I am kidding since I am one of the least subtle people I know). You can check out her entry here :
http://sewjenna.blogspot.com/2008/05/friend-talkers.html
After the time she put into this post, I must say a few words about Jenna--her wit and humor have always warmed my heart, her vulnerability and sincerity are inspiring, she is bold in her opinions and strong in her convictions, she doesn't shy away from the "tough" conversation, she loves her friends so completely, she isn't afraid of a judicious use of shock value every now and again, she is zesty--never dull or boring, she embraces life, she always makes me smile (sounds cliche, but so true), she is a contemplaters in that she is always mulling things over, thinking things through, she isn't afraid to admit her weakness, she has a depth to her character that pushes me to grow, and last but not least-she was awarded best actress for a play in college and in her acceptance speech she thanked the "little people" (she was referring to me of course).

BTW, I was kidding about her thanking the "little people," she actually forgot to mention me in her speech, but I forgave her even though it was me who convinced her that she was theatrically inclined to begin with.

Mother's Day

My first Mother's Day was a lot of fun. My parents were in town for the weekend and it was great to celebrate with them. My mom, who is the ultimate teacher, was constantly showing Lucy new skills and trying to get her to imitate sounds and motions. I love seeing my parents in the "grandparent role" as they totally and completely embrace it with such fervor.
We went out to brunch for Mother's Day to our favorite Baltimore spot, Mama's on the Half Shell. Pictured below is Lucy handing me my Mother's Day card. Don said he took Lucy to the store and held out two cards and let her grab the card that she wanted to give me--too cute! She had a little help writing out the card though.
Lucy and I at brunch.
The three girls. Also, for Mother's Day my dad and Don gave my mom and I pedicures. So on Saturday we got to get pampered at the local salon.

Uh-Oh!

So my parents came in town this weekend for Mother's Day and the funniest thing happened...Lucy totally repeated back a word to us. Within an hour of my parents getting here, my mom had Lucy saying "uh-oh!" This is Lucy's fourth word. Previously, she has said, "mama," "dada," and "hi." But this was the first time that she definitively repeated back a word to us and seemed to understand what she was doing. I swear this little girl really keeps us on our toes. Just when we think that we know her routines and habits, she switches up on us.

Lucy loves to clap her hands and is constantly showing off her new talent!

New Skills

Lucy turned 10 months today!
We realized that we haven't yet shown a video of Lucy's new skill - crawling. She loves to move around, and we are so proud of her. We are also thrilled that we need to baby proof our house now...
